Successful bid for Community History Archive

The Oxton Society is pleased to announce that it has been successful in its bid for funding from Wirral Borough Council's Your Wirral Fund for a Community History Archive.

The project, developed by the Society's History Group, will establish a paper and digital archive of local history material in the Oxton Village Bookshop, Christchurch Road, starting with the extensive collection of existing material and adding to it continuously. An area in the bookshop will be set aside with table and chairs for paper research and computer use, together with shelving for a properly ordered paper archive of the printed materials. A computer will be available to access the digitally stored material. The archive will be staffed on a regular basis and by arrangement, by volunteers from the Oxton Society History Group who will, as necessary, help users to access relevant history resources and to build up the archive with new material.

The funding is available immediately; so keep logging on to the website for more information.

Oxton History, published five times per year, contains newly researched articles on the history of Oxton, its buildings and its people. Back copies are available.
